Spring semester arts events highlight skilled ����Vlog��ý students

����Vlog��ý will present a variety of arts events throughout the spring semester. Events are presented by the departments of Music, Theatre and Dance, and ����Vlog��ý Art Museum. Audiences will appreciate the wide variety of events that showcase the diverse talents of students from majors across ����Vlog��ý’s liberal arts curriculum.����

• Monday, Jan. 20: ����Vlog��ý Gospel Choir performance, 7 p.m., First Presbyterian Church of ����Vlog��ý (621 College Avenue). This performance is part of the week-long celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., titled “Meditations on Democracy,”��held at the College January 20-24. The Gospel Choir is composed of ����Vlog��ý students and community members and has over 40 years of history. The concert is sponsored by the ����Vlog��ý-Orrville NAACP, ����Vlog��ý Cultural Events Committee, and ����Vlog��ý Department of Music.����

  Tuesday, Jan. 28: Artist Talk by Weiting Wei, 4 p.m., Ebert Art Center (1220 Beall Avenue). As part of the opening of ����Vlog��ý Art Museum’s exhibition, Weiting Wei: Inner Power, artist Weiting Wei will give an overview of her artwork and the themes of the exhibition, which deals with themes centered around pregnancy, children, and motherhood, interwoven with memories and traditions from Wei’s childhood.��

• Thursday, Jan. 30-Saturday, Feb. 2: Theatre and Dance I.S. Performances, Shoolroy Theatre in the Freedlander Theatre building (329 E. University Street). Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30-Feb. 1, and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 2. With pieces devised by students Eleanor Boomhower ’25, Co Clark ’25, Morgan Hunter ’25, and Cam Love ’25, these performances demonstrate each student’s individual research interests and artistic styles in theatre and dance. Love and Clark’s performances are Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, while Boomhower and Hunter’s performances are Jan. 31 and Feb. 2.   ����Vlog��ý Symphony Orchestra performs at fall 2024 concert.

• Friday, Feb. 14 and Sunday, Feb. 16: ����Vlog��ý Symphony Orchestra concert, Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center (525 E. University Street). Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 16. Conducted by Jeffrey Lindberg, professor of music at the College, the ����Vlog��ý Symphony Orchestra is comprised of both students and community members and offers experience playing orchestral literature of musical genres ranging from the baroque period to contemporary.��

• Thursday, Feb. 27-Saturday, March 1: Legacy of Light by Karen Zacarias, 7:30 p.m., Freedlander Theatre. Directed by Kerstin Vaughn, visiting assistant professor of theatre and dance, Legacy of Light, a contemporary comedy follows the lives of two women scientists in the 1700s and present day, as they explore the meaning of love, motherhood, family, art, and science. • Friday, March 7: Jazz Ensemble concert, 7:30 p.m., Freedlander Theatre. Conducted by Jeffrey Lindberg, the ����Vlog��ý Jazz Ensemble specializes in playing large-ensemble jazz and gives opportunities for participants to compose, arrange, and improvise music.��

• Saturday, March 8: Contemporary Chamber Ensemble concert, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center. A new addition to ����Vlog��ý’s music department this year, the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble focuses on music by living composers and is directed by Dylan Findley, visiting assistant professor of music, music theory, and composition.��

• Sunday, March 9: Scot Symphonic Band concert, 3 p.m., McGaw Chapel (340 E. University Street). Directed by Jeffrey D. Gershman, professor of music and director of bands, the band is the premier wind ensemble at the College and rooted in a deep belief in the importance of inclusive programming. Scot Symphonic Band performances draw both from the cornerstones of the wind literature and the finest contemporary works.

• Sunday, March 30-Thursday May 1: I.S. Art Exhibitions, MacKenzie Gallery in Ebert Art Center. With art by 10 different students majoring in art, these exhibitions represent students’ individual research interests and artistic styles in a variety of media. Student artists include Izzie Corley ’25, Adele Dooner ’25, Melissa Ford ’25, Olivia Kitchen ’25, Aidan Loop ’25, Evelyn McCain ’25, Kami Miller ’25, Minh Phan ’25, Twyla Roberts ’25, and Tamara Turner ’25.��

• Thursday, April 3: Japanese Minoh Kabuki Troupe Presentation and Workshop, Shoolroy Theatre of the Freedlander Theatre building, 7:30 p.m. Japanese Kabuki Troupe, Aioiza, will come to ����Vlog��ý from Gifu, Japan. The group will present information about the long and rich history of Kabuki theatre and conduct hands-on workshops. Tickets will be available at the box office in Freedlander Theatre or at wooster.edu/snippet/tickets.��

• Thursday, April 17-Saturday, April 19: Spring Dance Concert, 7:30 p.m., Freedlander Theatre. Directed by guest artist Dominic Moore-Dunson this year, the Spring Dance Concert is the most formal dance event of the year and an annual tradition at the College. The concert features choreography, dance performance, design, and stage management by ����Vlog��ý students, faculty, and staff. • Thursday April 24-Friday April 25: Opera Lyric Theatre performance, 7 p.m., Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center. The Opera & Lyric Theatre Workshop presents productions that give students the opportunity to learn more about stage craft and the art of operatic singing, with performances reflecting a wide range of programming that is appropriate for students’ vocal and artistic development.��

• Tuesday, April 29: Contemporary Chamber Ensemble performance, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center. A new addition to ����Vlog��ý’s music department this year, the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble focuses on music by living composers and is directed by Dylan Findley, visiting assistant professor of music, music theory, and composition.��

• Friday, May 2: ����Vlog��ý Chorus concert, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center. Founded in 1964, the ����Vlog��ý Chorus is comprised of students representing all academic areas within ����Vlog��ý’s liberal arts program. The award-winning ensemble has been repeatedly praised for its beautiful sound, high level of artistry, creative programming, and engaging performances.

• Sunday, May 4: ����Vlog��ý Symphony Orchestra concert, 3 p.m., McGaw Chapel. Conducted by Jeffrey Lindberg, professor of music at the College, the ����Vlog��ý Symphony Orchestra is comprised of both students and community members and offers experience playing orchestral literature of musical genres ranging from the baroque period to contemporary. This concert features student soloists Anna Puster ’25 on oboe and Ryan Yonek ’25 on trombone.��

• Sunday, May 4: ����Vlog��ý Singers and ����Vlog��ý Concert Band performance, 5 p.m., Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center. The ����Vlog��ý Singers is the College’s only all-treble ensemble music course, open to music majors and non-majors alike and conducted by adjunct instructor Victoria Peacock ’17. The ����Vlog��ý Concert Band is comprised of students, staff, and faculty of the College, along with community members from Wayne County, ranging in age from 16 to 80 and is conducted by Jeffrey D. Gershman, professor of music and director of bands at ����Vlog��ý.��

• College of ����Vlog��ý Art Museum exhibitions Weiting Wei: Inner Power and ART IS DANGEROUS: Artists on Injustice and Inequality, Ebert Art Center (1220 Beall Avenue).�� These exhibitions invite viewers to consider the role that art has in calling out injustices and how artists’ identities are intertwined with their work. Weiting Wei: Inner Power will be on display Jan. 28-May 3, while ART IS DANGEROUS: Artists on Injustice and Inequality will be on display Jan. 28-March. 14. The CWAM is open Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.��
