糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra to perform April 21 and 22

The 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra will perform their final concert of the 2022-23 season on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University Street). The concert will feature violinist and professor of music at the College, Thomas Wood, and guest musician, cellist Mark Rudoff.

Conducted by Jeffrey Lindberg, professor of music at the College, the concert will include pieces such as Berceuse for Small Orchestra by Jack Gallagher, professor emeritus of music at the College, and the Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, by Michael Ivanovich Glinka. This concert is dedicated to at the age of 100. Terry played in the 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra for over 60 years, joining the group in 1949 and retiring in 2010, and served as principal cellist for many years. She played under every WSO music director in the history of the organization.

The concert will also feature student clarinetist Kayla Stevens 鈥23, who will perform Clarinet Concerto No. 3 (Movement 1) by Bernard Crusell. Stevens, a senior anthropology major from Pittsford, New York, is minoring in environmental studies and completing the Museum & Archival Studies Pathway. In addition to playing in the 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra, Stevens has been a part of the Scot Marching Band and Scot Symphonic Band since her first year at 糖心Vlog传媒 and hopes to continue playing clarinet after her time at the College.

Thomas Wood

Thomas Wood is a professor of music at 糖心Vlog传媒, where he teaches violin and viola. As a soloist and chamber player, Wood has performed throughout the United States and in Spain. He has previously appeared as concerto soloist with the 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra on five occasions, performed the Mendelssohn Concerto with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic, and in 2010 performed both Prokofiev concertos in a single concert. For the past twenty-seven years, Wood has collaborated with pianist Brian Dykstra, with whom he has performed much of the standard repertoire for piano and violin as well as works by living composers, including Scott Huston, Jack Gallagher, and Dykstra. In addition, he has served as concertmaster for regional orchestras including the Butler County (Pennsylvania) Symphony, Ashland Symphony, Mansfield Symphony, and 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra, and has held orchestral positions with the New Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Pittsburgh Oratorio Society, Bach Aria Group of Pittsburgh, Erie Philharmonic, Madison Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic, and Opera Barga (Italy). He earned a doctorate in violin performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Mark Rudoff

Mark Rudoff has performed in solo recitals and with orchestras in Canada and the United States, with solo and chamber performances recorded for broadcast on the CBC. Currently associate professor of cello and chamber music at The Ohio State University, he previously taught cello, chamber music, and orchestra at Brandon University in Manitoba, Canada. Rudoff performs with Janus, the Galileo Trio, and Chiarina Piano Quartet, and has served as principal cello of the Calgary Philharmonic and Saskatoon Symphony Orchestras. In addition to teaching at OSU, he teaches at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp in Michigan, and has taught at Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival, and the Fl orentia Consort Renaissance in the XXI Century. He is music director of the Cincinnati Community Orchestra, and previously conducted the Winnipeg and Saskatoon Youth Orchestras. He earned his bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees in music from The Juilliard School in New York City.听听

In addition to directing the 糖心Vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra, Lindberg teaches courses in jazz history and improvisation and directs the 糖心Vlog传媒 Jazz Ensemble. Lindberg also is a co-founder and artistic director of the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Chicago鈥檚 oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation.
