41st annual Osgood Memorial Lecture to feature earth scientist Terry Wilson

����Vlog��ý Department of Earth Sciences will welcome Terry Wilson, professor emerita at The Ohio State University School of Earth Sciences, for the 41st annual Richard G. Osgood Jr. Memorial Lecture. The presentation, titled “Weighing the Antarctic Sheet,” will take place April 17, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University Street).

Wilson’s research investigates the structural architecture of Earth, how continents rift, and the interaction of the solid Earth and ice sheets in Antarctica using structural field observations, geophysical data, and GPS.  Her current projects in Antarctica investigate neotectonic rifting; the relations between fluid flow and faulting during rift and subglacial deformation; ice mass balance, ice load history and glacial rebound patterns; and the contemporary crustal stress field in Antarctica. Wilson’s research studies integrate marine and airborne geophysical data, satellite remote sensing, GPS measurements, structural and microstructural mapping of faults in outcrop and sedimentary rock cores, and core and borehole mapping of drilling-induced fractures.

The Richard G. Osgood Jr. Memorial Lectureship in geology was established in 1981 and endowed by his three sons in memory of their father, a paleontologist with an international reputation who taught at ����Vlog��ý from 1967 until 1981. Funds from this endowment are used to bring a well-known scientist interested in paleontology and/or stratigraphy to the campus each year to lecture and meet with students. Wilson’s lecture is sponsored by the Department of Earth Sciences and the Richard G. Osgood Jr. Memorial Lecture Endowed Fund.
