Culture Show to cap 糖心Vlog传媒’s celebration of International Education Week

糖心Vlog传媒 celebrates International Education Week (IEW) from Sunday, Nov. 6 through Saturday, Nov. 12 with a variety of events that provide opportunities for students to explore issues and the various cultures the College鈥檚 global community has to offer.

The celebration will culminate on Saturday, Nov. 12 with the IEW Culture Show at McGaw Chapel where student groups will showcase their cultures with music, dance, fashion shows, and more, all under the theme, 鈥淢oving Together with Joy.鈥 The Culture Show will start at 6 p.m. and is the highlight of International Education Week at 糖心Vlog传媒. A live stream will also be available for the event at wooster.edu/iew.

International Education Week begins with the Mini World Cup Futsal Tournament on Sunday as students, faculty, and staff will compete together on teams under the flags of different countries. The event will take place as a friendly tournament beginning at 11 a.m. in the Scot Center with nine teams and 56 players from across the campus community participating.

On Monday, a Global Bazaar and Ambassador Symposium will take place in Lowry Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Bazaar will feature tables in Lowry Center where students will showcase pieces of their culture while student presentations for the Ambassador Symposium will take place simultaneously in Lowry G42-45. 听

In the APEX Commons on Tuesday at the International Internships with APEX event, students have the opportunity to learn about internships as an international student or internships outside the U.S. The panel will run from 7-7:45 p.m.

Multiple events will take place on Wednesday, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with a showing of El-Per煤 Waka鈥: Twenty Years of Research at a Maya Center at Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center. The documentary, produced by Claire Pugel, 糖心Vlog传媒鈥檚 director of video and multimedia, showcases Dr. Olivia Navarro-Farr鈥檚 work on site in El-Per煤 Waka, an ancient Maya city located in northern Guatemala. Navarro-Farr will speak about her research, followed by the presentation of the documentary.

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday will be the showing of IN CONTEXT: The 糖心Vlog传媒 Mummy at the Burton Gallery of Ebert Art Center. Dr. Marianne Wardle will be joined by Professor Monica Florence (History) and Professor Bhakti Mamtora (Religion) to learn what we know about The 糖心Vlog传媒 Mummy, the oldest container in 糖心Vlog传媒 Art Museum鈥檚 collection. They will present about how it can help us think about life and afterlife, and the ethical care and keeping of human remains in museum collections.

International students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress to classes and activities on Thursday.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of International Education and to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. On the national level, IEW was first held in 2000.

糖心Vlog传媒 is proud that IEW has been celebrated on campus for more than 30 years. The first festival was initiated by the foreign language faculty in the 1970s.
