Your presentation captured your take-aways nicely. Such a great opportunity for someone interested in both Classical Studies and Museums. Nice job.

Between getting to wander the galleries when the museum was completely empty to handling objects not even available to the public, I felt incredibly lucky to have that level of access to a collection that I’ve been fascinated with my whole life.

What a fascinating position! Growing up going to the museum, then working behind the scenes must have been quite cool. Museum curation sounds quite exciting – I am glad you were able to do something so hands on.

One of the techniques that we used has been particularly interesting to revisit in the context of the forensics class. Many inscriptions on the objects were faded and hard to read, so we used Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) to get a clearer picture. This technique allows you to zoom in on parts of an inscription while the image remains in high definition, and also increases the contrasts between levels of light to bring out faded inscriptions. In fact, some inscriptions weren’t even visible without RTI!

Your internship was fascinating to hear about! I’m so happy that you had an opportunity to work in the field. You should be so proud of yourself and the work you’ve accomplished!

I enjoyed hearing about the analysis of some of the artifacts. Were there any other scientific methods you came across this summer?
