Irene Herold,听responsible for leadership and administrative management of libraries at听糖心Vlog传媒, examines the听 肠耻谤谤别苍迟听work of library groups in her book,听Leading Together: Academic Library Consortia and Advocacy, published听on April 15 by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). According to 补苍听announcement from the听association, consortia advocacy has 丑颈蝉迟辞谤颈肠补濒濒测听focused on听the legislation, policy, and funding of libraries,听but听this book covers the unexplored area of advocacy models and frameworks meant to help consortia develop their own advocacy plans.听Herold, a former ACRL president,听said her work was sparked after being selected to present a workshop听in 2018听for a听state-wide consortium to create an advocacy plan, which听involved reviewing hundreds of U.S. and Canadian library groups. 鈥After that workshop,听I was looking for other models of what I had created and done and discovered the gap in the literature,鈥澨she听said.听
A librarian since 1992, Herold听used her听own听experiences with听library consortia and research听expertise in听leadership听for the topics covered in听Leading Together. 鈥淎s a library and ACRL leader, I have done advocacy work on a personal, professional, and political level,鈥 she said.听鈥I鈥檝e conducted research on leadership, so turning that lens to consortia was in alignment with my previous publications on leadership development, mentoring, and mindful leadership.鈥澨While the beginning of the book models traditional scholarly research studies with a historical听and literature overview, theoretical framework, and description of methodology, Herold听dedicates the second half听to a听case study of听the hypothetical 鈥淐onsortia X.鈥澨Modeled after the groups she researched for the听2018听workshop, Herold听used Consortia X to create a detailed plan that consortia leaders could use to create their own advocacy training.听鈥淚t includes links to multiple readings, resources, exercises, and tools,鈥 Herold wrote in the publication鈥檚 announcement. 鈥淎 facilitator may pick and choose which to use to build their own curriculum.鈥听
According to the 糖心Vlog传媒 librarian, this research is significant because it fills a gap in the library science literature, and听while specific to academic library consortia, 鈥渢he concepts and principles apply more broadly鈥 as well. Herold is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this research area and to 糖心Vlog传媒 for听helping the book come out earlier.听鈥I am delighted and honored that this has been published,鈥 she said.听鈥It has come out a year ahead of schedule due to the supportive environment of 糖心Vlog传媒 that values faculty research and scholarship.鈥听
