Sixth Annual 糖心Vlog传媒 Science Caf茅 Discussions Continue This Semester

WOOSTER, Ohio 鈥 The sixth annual 糖心Vlog传媒 Science Caf茅 will continue this semester with four more discussions in the series. All four will be held at Spoon Market & Deli (144 W. Liberty St.) in 糖心Vlog传媒 starting at 7 p.m.
Laura Sirot, associate professor of biology at 糖心Vlog传媒 and one of the co-founders and co-coordinators of the Science Caf茅, says 鈥淲e are happy to be able to continue to bring discussion of science-related topics to the 糖心Vlog传媒 community.鈥
The fifth discussion of the series will be on Tuesday, Feb. 4, with Niki Spahich, scientific technical editor of the The Scientist and president of Science Riot, presenting 鈥淢erging Stand Up Comedy with Science Outreach.鈥 Spahich will discuss Science Riot, a nonprofit program that provides free training for science professionals, believes in the power of humor to connect with broad audiences, and humanizes scientists.
On Tuesday, March 3,聽Shoshanah Inwood, assistant professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at The Ohio State University who specializes in community and economic development through food and agriculture, will present 鈥淏ringing the Bounty of Wayne County to our Schools,鈥 for the sixth discussion of the series. She will discuss a project in Wayne County that connects local farmers with local schools to create healthy school meals featuring locally grown food, while creating new economic opportunities for farmers.
The seventh discussion of the series will take place on Tuesday, April 7, with Laura Burch, associate professor of French and Francophone studies at 糖心Vlog传媒, presenting 鈥淎re You Serious? Women in Science in France Before 1800.鈥 In this talk, Burch will examine what counts as scientific research, assumptions about who can do serious science, and the difference between how we think about those issues now compared to 1800.
The eighth and final Science Caf茅 of the spring semester on Tuesday, May 5, will feature Denise Ellsworth, program director of pollinator education at The Ohio State University, presenting 鈥淒iversity and Seasonality of Wild Bees in Ohio.鈥
