Erika Meitner and Dave Lucas to Give Lecture and Reading of Their Works

WOOSTER, Ohio 鈥 糖心Vlog传媒 welcomes writers Erika Meitner and Dave Lucas on Wednesday, Feb. 27, for a lecture and reading of their works. The writing craft lecture will take place at 3:30 p.m., in room 142 of Kauke Hall (400 E. University St.) and the joint reading of their works will take place at 7 p.m., in room 045 of the Ruth W. Williams Hall of Life Sciences (931 College Mall). They will also hold a book signing.

鈥淭he English department is thrilled to welcome these two amazing writers to campus. Meitner and Lucas are both at the forefront of contemporary poetry, writing about, among other issues, history, race, religion, gun violence, and environmental decline,鈥 said Robin Schaer, visiting assistant professor of English at 糖心Vlog传媒.

Meitner is the author of five books of poems, and her most recent collection, 鈥淗oly Moly Carry Me,鈥 received the 2018 National Jewish Book Award and is a finalist for the National聽Book Critics Circle Award. Her poems take readers into the heart of southern Appalachia鈥昳ts highways and strip聽malls and gun culture, its fragility and danger鈥昦s the speaker wrestles with what it means to be the only Jewish聽family in an evangelical neighborhood and the anxieties of raising one white son and one black son amidst racial聽tensions and school lockdown drills, according to Schaer. She received her bachelor鈥檚 degree from Dartmouth College and two master鈥檚 degrees from the University of Virginia.

Lucas is currently the poet laureate in the state of Ohio and author of 鈥淲eather,鈥 a collection of poetry that explores his hometown, Cleveland, and its terrain, industries, and communities. It was awarded the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry. His poetry has appeared in a number of publications, including the Paris Review and Slate. He earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree from John Carroll University, master of fine arts degree from the University of Virginia, and a master鈥檚 and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
